So what's up with this 5htp stuff anyway? I've heard that it helps you recover after taking Ecstasy. Is that true?

in regards to 5HTP

does not work.  waste of money, best way to feel better is to exercise(sounds horrid I know esp after consumption of MDA)sunlight, food, and doing things that naturally make you happy.  don't waste your money buying this crap.

I've found that, by taking it

I've found that, by taking it for about 5 days after a roll (4 pills a day), I have had little to no symptoms of serotonin deficiency.

MDMA ('ecstasy') works in

MDMA ('ecstasy') works in part by causing a lot of serotonin (a natural chemical in your brain that affects mood) to be released.

The down side is that your brain reacts to these artificially high serotonin levels by making itself less sensitive to serotonin. This can cause tolerance, as well as other problems like irritability, anxiety, etc.

5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin; if you take it, it helps your brain make more serotonin than it normally would. As a result, you can temporarily make your serotonin levels higher than normal, which can partly counter-act your (also temporary) tolerance to serotonin.

It doesn't actually help you recover from MDMA ('ecstasy') use (only time can do that), but it can be quite useful as a way to (temporarily) relieve tolerance related symptoms like feeling anxious in the day(s) after using MDMA. I would recommend taking it 'as needed' (take a capsule when you feel irritable, anxious, or depressed.)

It's important to remember that post-use emotional instability is often a sign of taking MDMA too often. For most people, about once a month is probably as often as you can use MDMA without developing some subtle problems, and even that may be too often for some people.

The good news is that your brain is very resilient. If you do find yourself having problems, usually all it takes is a long break (3+ months) to get back in emotional shape.

YES

Thank you, Nathan, for posting some legit info in response to this question. I was getting concerned reading the way the thread was degenerating.

I've apparently been on Facebook too long today, I was looking for the "like" button under your comment ;)
