Calipers

These are a vernier caliper and a dial caliper. They're commonly used for measuring tubes, bolts, or any other object that doesn't have straight sides and corners. We use a set to measure the diameter and width of all of the pills sent to the lab or tested at events. You can use a pair to measure your own pills so that you can make a more accurate comparison to our laboratory pill-test results.

You should be able to get a pair of calipers at your local hardware store for less than $20, or borrow one from a tool-lending library if there's one in your community. Cheap calipers are accurate enough to measure pills, so don't worry too much about quality. Just make sure that whatever you get can measure accurately to within 0.5mm.

If you'd like to buy a caliper online, give Harbor Freight Tools a try, just watch out for the really cheap ($2, $3) ones.
